The start of a new year often inspires fresh goals, healthier habits, home improvements, and long-term planning. One resolution that’s easy to overlook is caring for your trees as it’s easier to get caught up with wants and needs at eye level and below as opposed to those aloft in canopy of your Urban Forest. When the sun is shining and the temps are warmer, we emerge from winter’s slumber and are motivated to get busy on our landscaping to-do list. Winter is a great time to get a jump on that list by devising a plan to ensure that your projects are successful.
The same proactive planning applies for establishing a tree management plan as well. A tree management plan (TMP) is a long-term strategy for maintaining the health, safety, and value of trees on one’s property. This includes identifying hazards, health issues, establishing a plan of action and communicating a budget. At New Urban Forestry, we provide TMPs for our clients as part of our holistic approach to tree care. By doing so, our clients can make informed decisions and hopefully avoid being reactive when a tree dies or when a failure occurs.
Winter is an ideal time to schedule an assessment with one of our Certified Arborists. Although our Arborists are uniquely qualified to identify health issues, structural defects and problematic branches, these issues can be more obvious without the obstruction of leaves. In addition, some tree care measures are best performed before springtime, like structural pruning, for example and there’s a limited window to do so in respect to the health of the tree. Consequently, establishing a TMP sooner than later is best practice.
Springtime is traditionally one of the busiest times for New Urban Forestry and scheduling in advance can ensure that we can perform your needs in a timely manner. Homeowners begin landscaping projects, trees break dormancy, and demand increases quickly within this timeframe. Planning tree care in the new year allows you to schedule services early and avoid delays.
At New Urban Forestry, we understand that trees are an important part of the places where people live, work, and gather. Healthy trees contribute to shade, beauty, property value, and possess inherent environmental benefits.
Planning tree care now isn’t just about maintenance; it’s about stewardship. It’s an opportunity to protect the outdoor spaces that matter most to you and ensure your trees continue to remain a viable contribution to the Urban Forest in which you live.
